As a continuation of my previous post, this post covers my school day memories..!So a bit of recap, In my previous post, i wrote about my schooling in shimoga till 4th grade. So this is about what happened after that. After leaving shimoga, i went to my home town, Koppal, Karnataka. Initially i was embarrassed to leave my birth city, My parents were also concerned. They thought my education at Koppal would not prove worthy considering the competition for getting good colleges in big cities. Anyway i had to leave and i got admission in SVEM School. Interestingly, previous school i left and the one i was about to join had same names. It was and is considered to be the best school in Koppal. On my first day, i was taken to the class by a senior teacher and introduced me to our class teacher. Then i was introduced to the class by him and then he asked me to take a seat. For the first time, i saw my new classmates. Everyone had their empty stares for me. I kept my lunch bag at a place and looked for a place to sit. I don't remember if there was no space or no one wanted to give space, Only one guy was courteous enough to give me a seat. So i went and sat beside him and I must say i am still grateful to him for that one simple act of courtesy to me. So i took my seat beside him and we exchanged gentle smiles and introduced ourselves. From that day onwards till he left school, he was one of my best friends. Anyway after three periods, we had an interval or break. So all were standing outside on the corridors, i went there and one guy from a group said to his friends,"Hey,he kept his lunch bag where girls have kept theirs!!" and then everyone in the group laughed. I was perplexed initially. In my previous school, boys and gals sat side by side in class,we had lunch together and here i was laughed at just because i kept my lunch bag where girls usually keep theirs and then eventually i understood the difference in the outlook, boys and gals had for each other. Anyway now,i have my lifetime friends from the same batch. That's how life is, It fills in just the moment we feel it is a void.
So after my first day, i settled in slowly, eventually got new friends. My first class teacher was HS Dani Sir who is one of my favorite teachers. Although, He is one among favorites,we all had horrible beatings from him for our mistakes. All my 5th grade days went in my preparation for Sainik and Navodaya(both central board schools). I was the favorite student of our tuition mentor just because my dad paid the entire tuition fees before joining only. There also he used to beat hell out of students except me. Eventually i cleared the Navodaya exam but couldn't join because of some reasons. Anyway i had to continue my education in the same school itself. So I stepped into sixth grade. This year Rajesh sir was our class teacher. One who is valued for his true and honest care for his students which probably he has inherited from his father who impressed us like no other when we met him for the first time. So same studies continued, this year one noticeable thing was all the free periods were spent in playing quiz with again boys in one group and girls in other.
One day we were playing quiz, There was a question asked, anyway we couldn't answer, but after hearing the answer we felt it was wrong so everybody started shouting. Within the same context, i was also strongly opposing the answer but instead of opposing entire girls, I picked up one girl who sat in front of me and opposed only her. But she took it as a challenge and retaliated back until i curled back into my seat. And then i said to myself why did i do that? By the way i had my second fall into this perplexity. i mean she was my second crush in all and my first in Koppal. Now let us go back in time for a while. Actually i was sitting on last bench with my friends and she also sat with her friends on the bench beside us. Our class teacher used to pick most talkative girls and boys and used to give them privileged seats which was kept in front of other benches in right angle to the other ones. So she was given that seat for being one of the most talkative girls but in the boys side, only one place was left. So i had to compete for the same after which i gained my reputation and was promoted to the place in front of her. This was the prologue for the quiz incident i mentioned before. In simple words, Everything was planned to get the attention. Rest of the year went with the same telepathic stares and empty expressions..!
So now,My 7th grade, This year SC Hiremath sir was our class teacher one who introduced me the first day. I was chosen to become monitor of the class,of course, from the boys side. This is where i clawed into my fellow classmates. I mean this is were most of my classmates got to know me. We had board exams the same year so had to consider studies seriously. Anyway can't move on without mentioning the quarrels we had for our sitting benches. Don't know if our managing committee didn't have money to buy good and similar seating benches for all or simply because they knew Indian minds who cant just do the same which we did in our situation. All the boys as always were given small and uncomfortable benches and all the girls vice-versa. So greediness couldn't wait inside us for much time. We came up with a plan of changing our benches by coming early to the school. The next day myself and few others came early to the school and did all the dirty work. No doubt i exchanged my bench with the bench where my crush girl used to it. I even had to convince my fellow bench mates that this bench is good than the others. It happened with other guys also. I mean all the other one-siders had same plans like me. So the day went by until lunch break We used to have lunch in the play ground and girls in the class by then. So after we came back everything was exchanged again. All of us couldn't wait to bounce back. So this time we stayed back late after the school and did the same again and we had a more sophisticated plan this time. We divided ourselves into two groups mainly into messengers and pat-rollers. Messengers would have food in class and had to send a signal to convey the message if at all something was happening in the class. They were supposed to wave their kerchiefs if i remember correctly to inform us and pat-rollers in turn patrolled in ground waiting for the signal. If we got the signal, pat-rollers would group everyone quickly. Entire boys would start running into the class. All the other people used to wonder what is going on. Once inside class we would go and start pulling the bench from one side and they from the other and Most of the times we would win the tug of war.
I also became our house leader and also captain for our school kabaddi team. the same year. I also won my first elocution competition. We had our exams later. I also witnessed the way Indian teachers would let the board exams go by.(especially in govt. schools)I think in here,we will never get rid of nepotism and we will never move on. Anyway after that we got our results, Some of the nerds of our class felt i performed more than the expectation they had for me. Well, it was other way for me and then we had two months of holidays after which we would step into HIGH SCHOOL which i will continue in my next blog....!Thanks for reading by the way....!
